Kashmir bleeds again. Civilian shot by terrorists in downtown Srinagar


A shopkeeper in Srinagar has died after being shot dead by terrorists Monday night. The incident is the latest in a series of terrorist attacks against civilians in J&K.

A civilian shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar died from gunshot wounds. The incident occurred outside a store in the Bohri Kadal neighborhood of downtown Srinagar on Monday evening.

The victim, identified as Mohd Ibrahim Khan, was a salesman from Bandipora. He was taken to Shri Maharaja Hari Singh Hospital in Srinagar with a bullet in his abdomen and died while being treated.

India Today also learned that the victim was employed in a pharmacy run by a doctor who also happens to be a Kashmiri pundit.

In a statement released Monday, Srinagar police said the force received information about a “terrorist crime incident” in the Bohri Kadal area around 8:10 pm. Senior police officers rushed to the scene to find that a civilian had been shot.

Officials familiar with the incident said a preliminary investigation found “terrorists shot at the civilian” who later succumbed to his gunshot wounds.

In this regard, one case has been registered under the relevant sections of the law and further investigations are ongoing.

The area around the crime scene was cordoned off, followed by a search operation to track down the attackers.

In response to the incident, JKNC leader and former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah said in a tweet: “The insidious assassination of Ibrahim is reprehensible and I condemn it unreservedly.”

“Unfortunately Ibrahim is the latest in a series of targeted killings in the valley, particularly in Srinagar. May Allah grant him a place in Jannat, ”he added.
