People’s Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti, who led a protest against the civilian killings by security forces in Jammu on Wednesday, has been placed under house arrest until further notice.

Mehbooba Mufti led the protest, demanding that the bodies of the deceased be handed over to their families.

The former prime minister said there has been no accountability for the killing of innocent people since the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) went into effect.

Four people, including two civilians, were killed in a shooting by security forces during an anti-terrorist operation on Monday evening.

Holding a placard reading “Stop killing us, investigate the killings in Hyderpora, end impunity and hand over corpses to families”, Mehbooba Mufti protested with party activists and leaders outside the party’s headquarters in Gandhi Nagar against these murders.

A strong squad of police prevented the demonstrators from entering the main street.

Mehbooba told reporters that the families of the civilians killed in Srinagar are protesting and demanding that their bodies be handed over.

“This cruel government doesn’t even hand over the bodies after killing people. They (BJP) want to transform this nation of Gandhi, Nehru and Ambedkar into a land of gods. What else can I say? “Said the PDP chief.
