MEASURES AGAINST PARAM BIR SINGH. PROBABLY
According to sources, the Maharashtra government is likely to take action against Param Bir Singh for breach of service regulations in a week’s time.
Problems before Chakrabarty included the reinstatement of the sacked policeman Sachin Waze, Singh’s letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray against Anil Deshmukh and the suppression of vital information in the Antilia bombing horror case.
Chakrabarty reportedly cited Singh’s grave neglect and inappropriateness in the performance of his duties as police chief.
The Maharashtra Home Office later investigated Param Bir Singh for administrative misconduct on his part while he was serving as Mumbai Police Commissioner.
On Friday, Maharashtra Interior Minister Dilip Walse Patil said the government would take permissible action against Param Bir Singh, in accordance with the rules of the police force. He added that another decision would be made after speaking with Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
Singh faces five extortion charges, including two in Thane, where he worked as the city’s police superintendent. He was previously declared a declared perpetrator after a subpoena went unanswered. Param Bir Singh had not reported on duty since May 2021.
