Rahul Dravid appointed India head coach, to take over from Ravi Shastri during home series vs New Zealand


The BCCI announced on Wednesday that its Cricket Advisory Committee has unanimously appointed Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. He will replace Ravi Shastri, whose term ends after the T20 World Cup.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the Indian cricket team on Wednesday. The former captain of India will replace Ravi Shastri from the home series against New Zealand from the end of November.

The cricket advisory board, made up of Sulakshana Naik and RP Singh, unanimously named Rahul Dravid as head coach on Wednesday. the BCCI had invited applications for the said position on October 26th to appoint the successor of Ravi Shastri, whose term of office ends after the current ICC T20 World Cup.

Rahul Dravid, who worked as the director of the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, is credited for his close collaboration with the youth and his help in developing enviable banking power for the senior national team. Dravid had recently traveled to Sri Lanka as the head coach of the Indian cricket team led by Shikhar Dhawan.

Dravid has been named as the successor to Ravi Shastri, but BCCI President Sourav Ganguly had told India Today that the former batsman had asked for time when the two faced each other during the Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates.

Following the appointment, BCCI boss and Dravid’s former Indian teammate Ganguly praised the appointment and said he hoped Indian cricket would reach greater heights under the new head coach.

The BCCI welcomes Rahul Dravid as head coach of the Indian senior team. Rahul has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the game’s greats. He has also served with honors in Indian cricket as director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

“Rahul’s efforts at the NCA have nurtured several young cricket talents who have represented the country on the international scene. I am confident that his new appearance will take Indian cricket to new heights,” said Ganguly.
