More people tested positive for Covid-19 at SDM College of Medical Sciences in the Dharwad district of Karnataka, bringing the total number of infections on campus to 306.

Two hostels on the site were sealed. The infected students are treated in their dorm rooms. Freedom of movement on campus is completely restricted and all possible measures are being taken to prevent the infection from spreading.

On Saturday, the Health Minister of Karnataka, K Sudhakar, said that the university becomes a Covid-19 cluster with 281 people on campus who tested positive this week.

“I was told there was a cultural festival and it was spreading. We tested all 1,788 students in the college, some results are expected. An international school had also reported 34 cases and another 12 cases. Neither case was serious. ” “Said K Sudhakar.

However, he ruled out imposing stricter Covid-19 restrictions in the state. “We are unable to impose curbs [in the state]. Weddings and other events also take place, ”said the minister.

Dharwad District Administration has closed schools and colleges within 500 meters of SDM College. Surrounding areas were disinfected. Access to college visitors has also been restricted.

So far, no infection has been reported outside or in the vicinity of the university campus. The district commissioner has asked the population to get tested immediately at the nearby Primary Health Center if they have symptoms. “Everyone should take precautions and follow Covid guidelines,” he said.
