A police officer was shot dead by strangers on Sunday evening in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar.
The 29-year-old policeman, identified as Tausif Ahmad, died from gunshot wounds after being shot dead with a pistol at close range in the SD Colony in the Batamaloo area.
“At around 8 pm, terrorists shot JKP Constable Tausif Ahmad near his residence in the SD Colony Batamaloo,” an official was quoted as saying in a PTI report.
The policeman, who was stationed in the police control room, was immediately admitted to the SMHS hospital after the exchange of fire. The doctors pronounced him dead.

Speaking to India Today, Medical Superintendent Dr. Kanwaljeet Singh the death of the policeman.
The area has been cordoned off and a hunt for the attackers has been launched, officials said.
The National Conference of Jammu and Kashmir condemned the attack in a tweet. The party wrote: “Clearly condemn the cowardly and vile attack on the 29-year-old police officer in Batamaloo, Srinagar, in which he lost his life. No words of condemnation would be enough! May Allah grant him a place in Jannat to his family and friends in this time of mourning. “
