A man who has traveled to India from South Africa has tested positive for Covid-19 in the Dombivli region of Thane district in Maharashtra. The man’s samples were sent for genome sequencing to see if he was carrying the newly-found Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
The man is currently in solitary confinement in the isolation center of the art gallery of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). He arrived in Delhi from South Africa on November 24th and then traveled to Mumbai.
Dr. Pratibha Panpatil, the KDMC’s health authority, said the patient’s condition was stable. The patient’s brother tested negative for the coronavirus.
Other family members of the patient will be tested for Covid-19 on Monday, Patil said. You are currently in isolation.
On Saturday, two travelers from South Africa tested positive for Covid-19 in Bengaluru. However, they were found to be infected with the Delta Coronavirus strain, not Omicron.
