T20 World Cup: Pressure on Afghanistan and New Zealand after India’s big NRR boost, says Sunil Gavaskar

Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar said Friday that New Zealand and Afghanistan will be under pressure if they clash in a crisp Super 12 game of the 2021 T20 World Cup.

India defeats Scotland with 8 wickets in a Group 2 competitive game in Dubai on Friday, where they were able to increase their net run rate over New Zealand and Afghanistan. India kept its chances of reaching the 2021 T20 World Cup semi-finals alive when they beat Scotland for 85 and pursued the goal in just 6.3 overs in Dubai.

While Pakistan is at the top of the Super 12 point table in Group 2 with 4 wins from as many games, New Zealand is in second place with 3 wins. India jumped to 3rd place after its massive victory over Scotland, displacing Afghanistan to 4th place.

Should Afghanistan beat New Zealand in the last Super 12 game on Sunday in Abu Dhabi, India’s chances of reaching the semi-finals will increase. However, a Black Caps win will put India out of the race for the final four.

“This victory now in the Afghanistan-New Zealand game, there is pressure on both teams. In the past it would not have been the case if India’s NRR wasn’t good. But India’s NRR was better than Afghanistan and New Zealand.” Zealand, so the pressure is on both teams, “Sunil Gavaskar told India Today.

Gavaskar praises India’s overwhelming achievement

Gavaskar praised India’s dominant performance in their competitive game against Scotland and said the win was overwhelming. Gavaskar praised the approach taken by the Indian thugs in their chase at 86.

Notably, KL Rahul hit an 18-ball fifty, the third fastest fifty in a T20 World Cup game. His opening partner Rohit Sharma hit a 30s rapid fire when India won with 81 balls to go.

“An overwhelming achievement from everyone. The way the bowlers skittles and the bats then saw the situation and the equation and hit. There were no blatant shots, both KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma played orthodox cricket shots. It was very, very good, “added Gavaskar.

“India knew they couldn’t be kicked out at 86. So the opening games did the right thing, they went straight to Leder and put Scotland under pressure.”

India will face Namibia in their last Super 12 game against Namibia on Monday in Dubai.
