In response to the incident, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio said it was “very condemnable” and that a “high-level” special investigation team would investigate the case to ensure that “justice is done”. He called for peace from all parts of society.

Tensions swept the area as angry locals set some vehicles on fire following the incident. The vehicles are said to have belonged to the security forces.
