Delhi: Resident doctors hold protest march towards Union health minister’s residence, detained

Delhi police arrested several resident doctors marching towards the residence of Union Minister of Health Mansukh Mandaviya in protest at the delay in the NEET-PG consultation in 2021.

Earlier today, the police arrested several resident doctors who marched in protest against the Supreme Court. Annoyed by the alleged mistreatment by the police during their protest march in the afternoon, the resident doctors gathered again in large numbers on Monday at around 8 p.m. and began their march towards the residence of the Minister of Health.

“This morning when we peacefully protested for immediate advice from NEET-PG, we were mistreated by the police. Many resident doctors, including women doctors, were injured in police brutality. Now we want the police officers involved in it to be punished. “Said Dr. Sarvesh, a resident doctor at the RML Hospital.

Up to 300 resident doctors marched to the Sarojini Nagar Police Station, where they were arrested by the police. Before the arrest, the doctors also sang the national anthem.

“This is a black day in Indian history. How can the police mistreat doctors? All we want is early advice so that there are plenty of doctors to fight the pandemic, ”said Dr. Gaurav, a resident doctor in a Delhi hospital.

Meanwhile, the Association of Resident Doctors (FORDA) called a strike after the resident doctors were arrested by Delhi police on Monday afternoon.

In a published statement, FORDA alleged “police brutality” and called it “Black day in the history of the medical profession“. It condemned the police action and announced that all health facilities will be completely closed from today.

“Resident doctors, the so-called ‘Corona warriors’, who protested peacefully to accelerate the NEET PG consultation in 2021, were brutally beaten, dragged and arrested by the police. From today all health facilities will be closed completely! ”Read the statement.
