The Uttarakhand police are bringing proceedings against Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, formerly known as Wasim Rizvi, for making offensive and inflammatory statements against Islam during the “Dharam Sansad” or religious gathering in Haridwar.
The religious assembly known as the Haridwar “Hate Assembly” sparked an argument after videos of Hindu leaders appeared on social media giving provocative speeches and inciting violence against minorities.
Jitendra Narayan Tyagi is accused of deliberately hurting the religious sentiments of crores of people who believe in Islam. The speech was broadcast live on Facebook.

Subsequently, Gulbahar Khan filed an FIR against Jitendra Narayan Tyagi in Haridwar Kotwali.
Uttarakhand police tweeted (in Hindi): “Aware of the video that is going viral on social media for spreading hatred through provocative speech against a particular religion, a case against Wasim Rizvi aka Jitendra Narayan Tyagi and others was reported under the Section registered 153A IPC in Kotwali Haridwar and legal proceedings are ongoing. “

The three-day meeting was held from December 17th to 19th. It was organized by Yati Singhanand, a controversial Hindutva figure known for making communal statements.
RTI activist and Trinamool leader Saket Gokhale said today that he has filed a complaint with the SHO at Jawalapur Police Station against the organizers and spokesmen for the religious gathering.
