A written petition has been submitted to the Supreme Court concerning “the repeated cases of hate speech against Muslims across the country.”
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, a socio-religious organization of Muslims, and Maulana Syed Mahmood Asad Madani, a religious scholar and social activist, submitted the petition to the top court on Saturday.
The petition alleges that there has been an increase in alleged hate speech against the Prophet Mohammad in recent years and calls for violence against Muslims in the country.
The petitioners said that no action had been taken against anyone in such cases.
The petition lists inflammatory speeches by Yati Narsinghan and Saraswati, suspected anti-Muslim slogans at a rally in Jantar Mantar in August this year, the ongoing protests against the weekly Friday Namaz in public areas in Gurugram, protests in Tripura against attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and others Speeches and remarks as examples of hate speech against Muslims in the country.
The petition went on to claim that derogatory speeches against Muslims led to violence and even the killing of Muslims, and accused the police of failing to crack down on anti-Muslim speeches.
