Parliament Winter Session: Opposition,govt lock horns over suspension of 12 MPs | What’s on table today


The government and opposition spoke about the Tuesday Suspension of 12 MPs from Rajya Sabha for the remainder of the winter session for “unrestrained behavior” during the monsoon session of Parliament. Chairperson M Venkaiah Naidu refused to lift the suspension The members had shown no remorse for their “sacrilege”.

The opposition leader in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the motion to suspend parliamentary minister Pralhad Joshi was grossly against the rules and the practice was undemocratic.

Mallikarjun Kharge urged the chairman of Rajya Sabha, M. Venkaiah Naidu, to reconsider his decision. In his letter, the congressional leader said excessive measures had been taken against MPs by suspending them without giving them an opportunity to be heard.

The opposition leader in Rajya Sabha also stated that the suspension of these members was an unprecedented excessive act.

However, Chairman M. Venkaiah refused to lift the suspension, saying, “The members who committed the sacrilege against the house have shown no remorse. So I think the calling of the opposition [to revoke the suspensions] is not worth considering. “

Meanwhile, opposition parties, including Congress, DMK and National Conference, protested from both houses of parliament to protest the suspension of 12 opposition MPs.

Opposition MPs also protested near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in the parliament complex.

The stalemate on the issue led to a washout of the second day of the parliamentary winter session. However, the government did not pass a bill today saying it would wait for opposition members to return before doing any business in the true democratic spirit.
