Dhoni leads the Indian record with 294 layoffs ahead of Syed Kirmani (198), Kiran More (130), Nayan Mongia (107) and Wriddhiman Saha (104).
Pant rose through the ranks after making his test debut in 2018. He had a dream start to his testing career, scoring 100 each in his freshman year in international cricket in Australia and England. However, he went down in form and his home wicketkeeper skills were an option.
Pant regained his place on the test team during the India tour of Australia last year and has been a regular ever since. While he shone with the racket and played in the memorable test run Down Under, his wicketkeeping has made leaps and bounds.
