Captain Virat Kohli teamed up with seasoned No. 3 batsman Cheteshwar Pujara to help India regain momentum after the tourists lost both opening games early in the final session on day two of the third and crucial Test against South Africa in Cape Town’s Newlands.
South Africa vs. India, 3rd test day 2: highlights
India went to the end of the game at 57 for 2 and led South Africa by 70 runs in an exhilarating day with 11 wickets crashing in Cape Town. Kohli (14 not out) and Pujara (9 not out) survived a tricky period to add a crucial 33 runs for the 3rd wicket.
Both opening games were dismissed when Mayank Agarwal (7) was caught by Dean Elgar in front of Kagiso Rabada and KL Rahul (10) was grabbed by Aiden Markram while slipping bowling by Marco Jansen. Kohli and Pujara will try to take the game away from the home team on the third morning for a first straight win in South Africa.
Bumrah fifer helps India take the lead in the first innings with 13 runs
Jasprit Bumrah took his seventh 5-wicket haul when India defeated South Africa for 210 after tee to claim a narrow 13-run first-innings lead. All of the Indian tempo bowlers were excellent, with Bumrah leading the way with his movement over the surface and his ability to extract the jump onto the seamed wick.

Meanwhile, Bumrah bagged his seventh five-wicket haul – the most for an Indian sailor after 27 tests alongside Kapil Dev and Irfan Pathan. Harbhajan Singh (7/120 in 2010/11), S Sreesanth (5/114 in 2010/11) and Bumrah (5/42 in 2021/22 *) are three bowlers for India who have picked pipes in Cape Town.
Mohammed Shami (2/39), Umesh Yadav (2/64) and Shardul Thakur (1/37) were also among the wicket takers. Keegan Petersen scored the top 72 of his career for the home side and was almost alone before becoming the fourth victim for Bumrah, with the second highest score of 28 from Temba Bavuma.
The series is level 1-1 after India won the first Test in Pretoria with 113 runs before South Africa returned to claim the second in Johannesburg with seven wickets.
