WHY WAS THE SULLI DEALS CASE?

On July 4, 2021, several Twitter users shared screenshots of an app called “Sulli Deals” created by an unidentified group on GitHub. The app had a slogan that read “Sulli Deal of the Day” and was placed on photos of Muslim women.

“Sulli” is a derogatory term used against women.

The app creators would illegally collect photos of Muslim women from their social media accounts, troll them, use the photos inappropriately, and encourage people to participate in their “auction”.

Two FIRs were filed by the Delhi and Uttar Pradesh police in the ‘Sulli Deals’ controversy.

Delhi police told India Today that they have not yet received a response from GitHub, despite the fact that the government has written a letter related to the Sulli Deals case.
