Mood of the Nation 2022: 82% praise central government’s Covid-19 vaccination drive


India Today’s Mood of the Nation poll (January 2022) has found that 82 per cent of respondents have supported the central government’s introduction of the Covid-19 vaccination.

82% of respondents in India Today’s Mood of the Nation survey (January 2022) described the central government’s efforts to vaccinate the country’s population as “good”. Eight percent described it as “average” and seven percent as “poor”.

Since January 16 last year, India has administered over 160 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. The data suggests that 90 percent of the eligible population have received the first dose, while 60 percent are fully vaccinated.

Earlier this month, the central government also initiated vaccination of teenagers in the 15-18 age groups. Over 3.5 million young adults in these age groups received their first dose between January 3 and 17 this year.

The Indian government is also in the process of giving “precautionary doses (booster doses)” to healthcare and frontline workers, and citizens aged 60+ with co-morbidities.

60% support the government’s handling of the economic consequences

Similarly, India Today’s Mood of the Nation survey (January 2022) found that 60 per cent of respondents said the central government had done enough to counter the economic fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.

In response to the results, Dr. Naresh Trehan: “Today, a full lockdown as implemented in the first wave is not necessary. There are two reasons. First, people have become more aware of the virus. Second, when you have super spreader events like restaurants and movie theaters, it makes a big difference.

“There is no need for a full lockdown.”
