Selectors, BCCI officials urged Virat Kohli to continue as T20I captain for sake of Indian cricket: Chetan Sharma

The chairman of the senior team’s selection committee, Chetan Sharma, said on Friday the 31st.

Chetan Sharma’s comments came after announcing India’s 18-man squad for the 3-game ODI series against South Africa on Jan. 19.

Chetan Sharma disagreed Virat Kohli’s allegations that no one on the board or the selection committee had asked him to reconsider his decision to give up the captain’s armband in the shortest game format.

“When the meeting (selection meeting for the World Cup) started it was (Kohli’s decision) a surprise for everyone, because there was a World Cup in a few days and it is normal for everyone to have a similar reaction,” Sharma told the press on Friday.

“Whoever was present at the meeting urged Virat Kohli to reconsider his decision. All voters at the time felt that this could have an impact on the World Cup, all voters thought that this could have been done after the tournament .

“Virat was told in the interests of Indian cricket by everyone available at the meeting to continue as captain – all the conveners were there, the officers were there. Everyone told him who won’t “When you suddenly get news like this, you are in shock because it is about the World Cup,” he added.

“Everyone asked that we could sit and make a decision after the World Cup, but he has his own plans. We respected his decision. Yes, everyone told him to think about it.”

Virat Kohli had contradicted Sourav Ganguly’s claims in an explosive press conference on December 8th that he had urged the captain not to give up the T20I captaincy.

“When I first communicated with the BCCI about the role of the T20I captain, I told them that was my position, these are the reasons for my decision, it was received pretty well. Nobody was offended, nobody hesitated One told me not to leave the T20I captain, “Kohli told the press.

CHETAN SHARMA IN THE DECISION TO REMOVE VIRATE KOHLI AS ODI CAPTAIN

Meanwhile, Chetan Sharma also made it clear that the decision to remove Virat Kohli as ODI captain was announced as early as December 8th to ensure there would be no distraction during an important tour like the one in South Africa.

The BCCI did not announce the ODI roster when the test roster was announced.

“There is no confusion. I was expecting this question,” said Sharma.

“The thing is, Virat Kohli said he was informed 90 minutes before the press conference and today the ODI team was announced. We announced that day because we wanted everyone to be on cricket in the middle of the show concentrated.” You can’t call someone in the middle of the series and tell them you’re not the captain.

“We gave Virat time and they can get into the system just like Rohit. It’s a question of our communication, the selectors have excellent communication with the board. There are no communication problems with the team leader, the captain and even with” the local ones Player.

“We 5 selectors even communicate with every local player because it is our work and duty. There is no communication gap.

“We tried to communicate that we wanted to give the team time. On that day the test team was selected. Virat was informed the day before the selection meeting. I cannot decide for all of them, because all” 5 selectors have to be involved and then only the captain can be informed.

“When all voters voted unanimously, we immediately informed the captain about it,” he added.
