The Twitter accounts of the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA), the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Mann Deshi Mahila Bank (a microfinance bank) were hacked on Sunday. The alleged hackers renamed the handle “Elon Musk”.

Some tweets were posted promoting cryptocurrencies, similar to what was seen back then Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s account has been hacked..

Sources say this could be because the password was compromised or a malicious link was clicked by the account’s traders.

While the ICWA Twitter account was restored, malicious tweets are still visible on the Twitter handles of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the man Deshi Mahila Bank.

The ICWA is an “Institute of National Importance” and has the Vice President as President ex officio.

CERT-IN, the IT security group of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, is getting to the bottom of the matter.

PM Modi’s personal Twitter handle was briefly hacked on December 12th. While the account was restored shortly afterwards, a tweet with advertising for cryptocurrency from the handle had already been shared and later deleted.
