The Union Minister for Roads and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has tested positive for Covid-19 and has self-isolated.

Gadkari shared his health update on Twitter Tuesday and urged those who came into his contact to isolate themselves and get tested.

“Today I tested positive for Covid 19 with slight symptoms. After all the necessary protocols, I have isolated myself and am under quarantine at home. I ask everyone who has come into contact with me to isolate themselves and get tested,” says he wrote.

Gadkari’s test result comes a day after Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP National President JP Nadda, Bihars Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai tested positive for the deadly virus On Monday.

However, Gadkari had tested positive for Covid-19 also in September 2020 during his medical examination and had isolated himself.

Meanwhile, India registered 1,68,063 new cases in the past 24 hours, 6.5 percent fewer than Monday, data from the Union Ministry of Health showed on Tuesday. This brought the total number of cases to 3,58,75,790.

277 deaths have been reported in the country in the past 24 hours, bringing the total reported deaths to 4,84,213.
