Virat Kohli didn’t mince words as he expressed his frustration after a late scoring in Rassie van der Dussen’s favor in the 37th over of the final inning of the hard-fought Day 4 Test at Newlands.
This was the second time in a Test match that Kohli lost his composure when his frustration over a previous stump mic rant took the spotlight on Day 3 of the ongoing match. Van der Dussen was beaten by Mohammed Shami and the Indian team appealed in unison. But the referee said no and Kohli immediately made a check.

The replays showed a spike as the ball went over the outside edge, but at the same time the racquet scraped the ground so the third referee asked Erasmus to stand by his verdict. Kohli was seen speaking to onfield referee Marais Erasmus and then exchanged some colorful words with Van der Dussen, referring to the South African’s little episode with Pant in the second Test. “When you’re chasing someone five years younger than you,” Kohli told Van der Dussen, asking him if he sled Rishabh in the second test.
Earlier Thursday, Kohli, his second-in-command KL Rahul and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made some unsavory comments about umpiring and technology in the stump mic after rival skipper Dean Elgar received a massive reprieve due to a controversial DRS decision in the final hour of Day 3 had received.
In the 21st pass, Elgar was ruled LBW by on-field referee Marais Erasmus when he was hit on the pads by an Ashwin delivery. However, the decision was overturned after review.
Angry at the decision, an angry Kohli went to the stumps and said, “Also focus on your team when they point the ball at eh, not just the opponent. Try to catch people all the time.”
