The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday summoned the South Korean envoy over Hyundai Pakistan’s post on social media supporting Pakistan’s Kashmir Solidarity Day.
The MEA said the message was to express concern about the corporate’s behavior and not to lodge a protest against the country.
The official spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, in a statement said India’s strong displeasure on the unacceptable social media post by Hyundai Pakistan was conveyed to the Indian Ambassador in Seoul.

“It was highlighted that this matter concerned India’s territorial integrity, on which there could be no compromise. We expected the Company to take appropriate action to properly address these issues,” a statement issued by the MEA read.
The MEA said that it welcomes foreign companies to invest in India but added that it expected companies to refrain from commenting on sovereign matters.
“India welcomes investments by foreign companies in various sectors. But, it is also expected that such companies or their affiliates will refrain from false and misleading comments on matters of sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
HYUNDAI EXPRESSES ‘DEEP REGRET’ IN SECOND STATEMENT
Car manufacturer Hyundai on Tuesday expressed “deep regret” after it faced massive backlash by sharing solidarity messages on social media about “Kashmir’s struggle for freedom”.
The automobile maker said it “deeply regretted any offense caused to the people of India by this unofficial social media activity”.
This was the second statement issued by the automobile manufacturer.
WHAT IS THE CONTROVERY ABOUT?
On February 5, Hyundai Pakistan’s social media handles shared posts in solidarity with the “Kashmiri brothers” in their “struggle for freedom”. The social media posts were later removed.
