At least five workers were killed and five others were injured after a portion of an under construction building collapsed in Pune’s Yerwada area.
The workers came under the iron mesh made for laying slabs on the basement parking of the building.
At least five workers were killed and five were left injured after a portion of an under construction building collapsed on them in Pune’s Yerwada area on late Thursday night.
According to Pune’s Traffic Police Commissioner Rahul Shrirame, the construction work of a mall was underway in the Shastrinagar area of Yerwada. A 16 mm-sized iron mesh was made for laying slabs on the basement parking of the building. Suddenly, this giant iron mesh fell on 10 laborers who were working at the site.
As soon as the information about the accident was received, the fire department reached the spot. Iron bars pierced through the workers’ bodies were removed with the help of cutters.
Five workers died on the spot, Shrirame said. The injured were taken to the hospital.
The identities of the deceased persons are yet to be known.
