Skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday hailed Indian bowlers while singing out Prasidh Krishna’s impact in the second ODI as India defended a modest total of 238 to take an unbeatable 2-0 lead in the three-match series against West Indies. Rohit also added that Shikhar Dhawan should be back for the third and final ODI.

India vs West Indies, 2nd ODI: Highlights

“Winning the series is a good feeling without a doubt,” Rohit Sharma, the India captain, said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“There were some challenges that we had to face today. That partnership between KL and Surya. That is the maturity we need. We got to a respectable total, which was important.

“With the ball we were outstanding. The entire unit came together and performed together as a unit. It is important for these guys to bat in that kind of situation. That is when you can judge them,” Sharma added.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul played responsible knocks of 64 and 49 but the hosts kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, and in the end, West Indies restricted India to 237/9 in the allotted fifty overs. For the West Indies, Alzarri Joseph and Odean Smith scalped two wickets each.

“Today’s knock with give Surya a lot of confidence. The pitch wasn’t easy. So he batted and did what the team wanted and not what he wanted to do. KL too, and that little innings from Hooda in the end.

“I have been asked to do different things, so this was different. People will be happy seeing Rishabh open then, but yeah it is not permanent. We will get Shikhar back next game, and he need some game time. It is not always the results.

“We want to try a few things with the long term in the mind so we don’t mind if we lose the odd game in the process. I was a little surprised to not see the dew but again I am not taking anything away from the bowling unit. I have not seen that kind of spell in a long long time in India. He bowled with skill, he bowled with pace. All in all a great bowling effort,” Sharma signed off.

The two sides meet in the third and final match of the series at the same venue on Friday
