Union Home Minister Amit Shah has assured Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi that he would “personally look into” allegations against Aam Aadmi Party’s alleged ties with pro-Khalistan outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).

In a letter to Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday, Amit Shah wrote: “As per your letter, a political party being in contact with and seeking support from an anti-national, separatist and banned outfit during elections is a serious matter in the context of national security.

“The agenda of such people is no different from the agenda of the nation’s enemies. It is condemnable that some people, in order to attain power, can go to the extent of teaming up with separatists and hurting the unity of Punjab and the country. “

Channi’s letter to Amit Shah

Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, in a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, had sought a probe into alleged ties between AAP and pro-Khalistan outfit Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).

Citing a purported letter by SFJ founder Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, Channi wrote: “The letter is in Punjabi language and contents of this letter shows that the Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which is a banned organization, is in constant touch with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

“It has been mentioned in the letter that the SFJ has given its support to AAP in the elections to the State Assembly in 2017 and similarly in these elections too, the SFJ has exhorted the electorate to vote for Aam Aadmi Party.”

Channi went further to add that this is a “very serious issue” and needs to be thoroughly investigated.

In his letter, Charanjit Singh Channi also mentioned allegations leveled against Arvind Kejriwal by former AAP leader Kumar Vishwas.

“These allegations also deserve to be probed comprehensively and necessary action taken accordingly,” Channi wrote.
