KYIV UNDER ATTACK

Russia has announced a temporary ceasefire in the cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha to allow civilians to leave. The mayor of Mariupol said the city was blocked by Russian forces. As Russia’s invasion of Ukraine entered the second week, the port city saw some of the fiercest fighting with constant shelling. Mayor Vadym Boichenko said in a video broadcast. “Mariupol remains under fire. Women, children and the elderly are suffering. We are being destroyed as a nation. This is genocide of the Ukrainian people,” the city’s council said in a statement.

The streets of Sumy witnessed fierce fighting on Saturday morning. Several Indian students are also stranded in the city, even as India is operating evacuation flights to rescue stranded people from the war-hit country.

HEAVY SHELLING IN KHARKIV

With an eye on Ukraine’s second-largest city, Russian forces continued to bombard Kharkiv, inflicting massive damage, causing power supply and water disruptions. At least 21 people were killed and 112 wounded in shelling in Kharkiv on March 2 as buildings and schools were reduced to shambles after relentless bombardment. Another 34 civilians were killed on Friday night.

RUSSIANS MOVE TOWARDS ODESSA

After capturing the key port city of Kherson, the Russian warships were headed to the third-largest city of Odessa. The US also warned that an attack was imminent on Odessa.
