Medical equipment union asks govt to prioritise vaccination of staffers

According to the manufacturers, the risk to the life of the employees involved in the supply chain can endanger the entire supply chain, which can lead to hospitals no longer being adequately supplied.

Medical device manufacturers in the country have written to the central and state governments to prioritize vaccination of all workers involved in the supply of medical devices and the pharmaceutical industry. The risk to their lives can put the entire supply chain at risk and result in hospitals no longer receiving care.

In a letter, India’s Medical Device Industry Association (AIMED), an umbrella organization of medical device manufacturers, said many medical device supply chain owners and workers in the medical device supply chain passed away last month due to Covid-19.

“Medical devices and pharmaceuticals, as well as distribution and retail supply chains, are viewed as an essential product and service. We can also relax at home and take a 2 to 4 week break but risk going to work every day for over 14 months, but are not in any of the central or state government’s priority lists for vaccination to ensure the protection of those who help protect the public, “said Rajiv Nath, coordinator of the forum at AIMED.

“In the meantime, employees get sick because they are not vaccinated and production downtime occurs and the supply chain is interrupted, which leads to local shortages. Today there is a shortage of oxygen and oxygen bottles and an oxygen concentrator, tomorrow perhaps oxygen masks, infusion sets and basics such as syringes . ” We are fighting the only way or threatening closure as announced by the Chemists’ Association, or we should focus on preventive measures and the management of limited resources through prioritized access that no one will question as unjustified, “he added.

Up to half a dozen owners of various medical device companies have succumbed to Covid-19. The traders have urged all state governments and the center to view them as front line workers and give priority to vaccinating them.

“According to the letter, the Haryana government has given medical device workers priority 3 for vaccination. An order has been issued,” Nath said.
