Two arrested after video of man in PPE kit throwing body into river in UP surfaces

Two people were arrested by the police after a video surfaced of a body being thrown into the Rapti River in Uttar Pradesh.

The video shows two young men throwing a body from a bridge in Sisai Ghat into the river while it is raining. One of them is wearing a PPE suit.

The incident allegedly took place on Saturday night in the Kotwali area of ​​Balrampur. The video has been shared multiple times on social media.

The two people arrested were identified as Sanjay Kumar and Manoj Kumar. A police case has been filed against her.

COVID-19 victims

Police have also identified the victim as Premnath, a resident of Shohratgadh Siddharathanagar in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Balrampur, Premnath was admitted to hospital on May 25 after testing positive for Covid-19. He died on May 28 while undergoing treatment for the infection.

Balrampur CMO said, according to the Covid protocol, Premnath’s body had been turned over to his relatives for final cremation. But, he said, Premnath’s relatives threw his body into the river.

The incident occurs barely two weeks later Several bodies swam in rivers in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh amid a devastating increase in Covid-19 cases.
