Euro 2020: Denmark continue inspired run into first semi-final since 1992, dump Czech Republic out with 2-1 win

Christian Eriksen will be a proud man who sees Denmark getting stronger and stronger at Euro 2020. The Danes ousted the Czech Republic in the quarter-finals to secure a place in the Wembley semi-finals. Kaspeer Hjulmand’s men defeated the Czechs 2-1 for exactly 3 weeks after a whole nation sobbed Eriksen’s cardiac arrest in the opening game on the pitch – a defeat against Finland.

Euro 2020: Czech Republic – Denmark – Quarter Finals – Highlights

Denmark’s players had to deal with the emotional trauma of seeing one of their teammates collapse on the pitch and receive a resuscitation. But they rallied in the tournament with the “heart of Eriksen” and made a remarkable comeback.

A fitting homage to Christian Eriksen

The quarter-final match between the Czech Republic and Denmark, fittingly, began with a wonderful homage from the Czech Republic, when captain Tomas Soucek presented his opposing captain Kjaer with a signed jersey. While Eriksen is recovering from his cardiac arrest at home, Denmark has shown another clinical achievement.

Denmark started the game very positively and already took a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute through Patrick through Thomas Delaney’s goal after a fine cross from Stryder. While Patrik Schick missed a chance to equalize in the first half, the Hjulmand men went 2-0 into the break thanks to a goal by Kasper Dolberg in the 42nd minute, which was 3 at the EM 2020. It was a wonderful cross from Joakim Maehle, who is one of Denmark’s outstanding players in the tournament.

The second half was dominated by the Czech Republic at the beginning, whose substitutes made a big difference. Schick scored his fifth goal of the tournament and sees him right away with Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo for the Golen shoe when he cracked a cross home.

But the Czechs couldn’t go on and find the balance. Denmark remained determined and will now face winners England against Ukraine at Wembley on Wednesday.

Another Danish dynamite at Euro 2020?

Denmark has reached the semi-finals of the European Championship after 29 years, the longest gap between the teams that made it into the last 4 of the most important European competition. In 1992 Denmark defeated Germany 2-0 in the final and was referred to as the Danish Dynamty.

With Hojberg, Dolberg, Maehle, Damsgaard and Brathwaite on stage at the right time, Denmark is hoping to repeat the 1992 performance. They will face the winner of the last quarter-final between England and Ukraine in the semifinals next week at Wembley Stadium.
