World Health Organization Regional Director – Southeast Asia Poonam Khetrapal Singh said Monday that 7.5 million doses of Moderna vaccine were offered to India through the global health agency’s Covid-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) program.

However, there is no clarity so far as to when the jabs would be available in the country as WHO said availability is “subject to the exemption clause”.

Last month the drug inspector from India had granted Moderna. a restricted emergency use authorization for his Covid-19 vaccine. The cans are imported by the Indian drug manufacturer Cipla, but are the responsibility of the central government.

UK PAUL ABOUT MODERNA VACCINE

NITI Aayog member Dr. VK Paul had recently said that the government is actively working with Moderna to see how their Covid-19 vaccine can be imported and made available in the country.

“… are running back and forth about the contractual features (discussions). The discussions have not yet been concluded. We are trying to ensure that this happens at the earliest. We now expect to hear from you at any time. You currently have to address some of the points, that we made and we will move them forward, “said Dr. VK Paul.

According to sources, the Indian government set certain conditions for the conclusion of the exemption clause contract and sent the US drug maker for inspection.
