Uttar Pradesh Police chargesheets 11 in Loni assault case


Uttar Pradesh police have filed charges against 11 people in connection with an attack on an elderly man in the Loni area of ​​Ghaziabad.

Two defendants have been indicted under the Gangsters Act by the police, including Parvesh Gujjar and Kallu Gujjar, while eight others have been indicted under sections of India’s Criminal Code, including 323 (voluntary violation), 504 (insult to violate the peace). ), 506 (intimidation), 295 (A) (intentional act to incite religious sentiments), 147 (riot), 148 (riot with lethal weapon), 149 (illegal gathering).

Around 24 people witnessed the case, which became known after a video went viral of an elderly citizen being beaten, according to sources.

Sources say Umaid Phelwan, who was posted under the National Security Act, is not on the fee schedule. A separate indictment will be filed against him.

The UP Police have also booked journalists and Twitter for disseminating false information that is part of the ongoing investigation.

In May, a video was posted on social media showing an elderly Muslim man being beaten up in Ghaziabad’s Loni. Ghaziabad police said there was no communal aspect of the incident and that the man knew the attackers personally.

Abdul Samad, 72, was beaten by six people on June 5. The attackers also chopped off his beard, as seen in the viral video.

Accompanied by the local leader of the Samajwadi party, Ummed Pahlwan Idrisi, Abdul Samad filed an FIR on June 7th against unidentified persons. Samad later participated in a Facebook live claiming he was kidnapped and beaten by the attackers, who also forced him to sing “Jai Shri Ram”.

“The incident has no communal aspect. Victim and accused have known each other for a long time. The victim sold a tabeez (amulet) to the main defendant Parvesh, but he did [Parvesh] complained that it had a negative impact on his family, “Iraj Raja, the Police Commissioner (SP), Ghaziabad (rural), told the media at the time.

SP Raja had added: “Hey [Parvesh] Abdul Samad called to his home and started beating him. He called his friends Kallu, Poli, Aadil, Arif and Mushahid, who also tied up the victim and chopped off his beard. One case was recorded and key defendants were arrested. The investigation is still ongoing. “
