Almost two years after his party decided to break its alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Maharashtra CM and Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray said Sunday he still believes his party has 25 years as part of an alliance with BJP wasted.
Chief Minister Thackeray made scathing comments about Shiv Sena’s former allies, the BJP, while addressing party officials in virtual mode on the occasion of the 96th birthday of the party’s founder and his father, Balasaheb Thackeray.
Uddhav Thackeray began by saying that Shiv Sena had “wasted” his time on BJP for 25 years. “My only disappointment is that they were once our friends. We raised her. As I said, our 25 years in alliance with the BJP were wasted,” Thackeray said.
CM Thackeray stressed that Shiv Sena had not let go of his Hindutva point of view, CM Thackeray said: “Shiv Sena pramukh had told us about Hindutva. We wanted power for Hindutva. What we are seeing now, the Hindutva practiced by these people (BJP) is just an excuse. Her Hindutva represents power. They only wear false skin of Hindutva. People ask us if we left Hindutva. But we left BJP and not Hindutva. BJP does not mean Hindutva”.
CM Thackeray accused the BJP of forming alliances with regional parties just to gain power. “The principle of BJP is the use-and-throw policy. Remember the days when BJP candidates lost their deposits in elections? Back then they needed us and that’s why they allied themselves with regional parties, with us, Akali Dal and TMC. They all got together and Vajpayee formed the government. We supported them with all our hearts. But now these neo-Hindutvavadis only use Hindutva for their own benefit.”
Responding to Home Secretary Amit Shah’s request to take part in the elections alone, CM Thackeray said: “We are ready to fight alone, but my condition is you do not use your power as a government. We will not use our power either. Let’s fight as two political parties. It’s not fair to use ED, income tax.”
